Description
NLPDC believes that all learners have a right to instruction that builds on thier strengths and addresses their needs. Children and adolescents who struggle with literacy require particular types of support. Response to Intervention (RTI) increasingly provides a framework for working with stuggling readers, but many approaches can be used both within and outside of RTI.
The 2013 Institute brings many new opportunities and challenges to teachers, and no where is that more evident than in the planning process. This Institute will give you real-world examples of teachers working with colleagues to link instruction with theCommon Core, and take you step-by-step through the process of connecting assessments and lesson planning. The Institute will also provide teachers with literacy interventions that are aligned with common core to increase literacy levels within the classroom.
The Institute will directly address:
- Integrating the Standard across the ELA block
- Facilitating student thinking and talk about text
- Building vocabulary and word-learning strategies
- Supporting students in reading increasingly complex text
- Supporting the teachers in making needed shifts in literacy instruction
