. With continued and pervasive gender and intra-household inequalities which are due largely to conservative opinions and poverty among women, women in engineering have an uphill task of balancing the level of under-representation in decision-making and be actively involved in the industry. Africa needs to take a strong position on the issue of gender inequality and violence against women!!
Nobody seems to have ownership of the problem and The African Women in Engineering Leadership Conference (AWELC 2013) will be a network platform for women to exchange ideas, share experiences, debate and prepare for unique challenges faced specifically within their unique environment and offer solutions which will strengthen the capacity of Women in the Engineering Sector to improve their chances of attaining leadership positions and contribute towards the overall development of the African landscape.
AWELC 2013 will ensure women in the industry get equitable access to economic resources and leadership opportunities, as well as social justice. This forum will give women in engineering and other related industry the tools strategies and know-how on how to leverage exceptional opportunities regardless of age, shape, size, heritage or personal circumstance. AWELC 2013 will ensure women in engineering access leadership opportunities and work hand-in-hand to reshape the current bad shape of the African economy.
