The Asian Insurance Congress 2013: Breaking Away from the "New Norm"

In 2011, we highlighted the spectacular expansion of the insurance sector especially within the emerging markets in Asia, while in 2012 we stressed the challenges to improvise and redesign offerings and engagements to adapt to changing times. These two themes continue to be ever so relevant as change remains the common denominator within the financial services industry. This year - at the Asian Insurance Congress 2013 - we urge insurers to break away from the herd mentality and develop their own unique service, product, and engagement propositions. This is a requisite to gain market supremacy in a "new normal" environment characterized by protracted slower economic growth, hyper-competition and compressed margins.

As a sign to these changing times, we saw how the insurance landscape shifted from being product to customer-centric, witnessing industry transformations being closely aligned to customer demands. With customer experience becoming the next competitive battleground, insurers are rushing to spin a customer-centric edition to their distribution channels and outreach. In that process, they are crafting more defined mobile initiatives, initiating Web 2.0 forays, and adopting Big Data technologies in attempts to provide hyper-personalized service and create a competitive edge.

This cacophony of change coupled with advances and availability in technological offerings would surely leave behind a trail of confused executives! Make sense of these industry developments at the Asian Insurance Congress 2013, as we sieve out valuable information from the noise to bring to you the most relevant issues within Asia’s insurance sector that could potentially re-shape the future of insurance as we know it.
