Started in 2001, Peace as a Global Language (PGL) is firmly established in Japan as an annual conference designed to bring together those interested in promoting peace through education, researchers, members of NGOs and activists working on peace-related issues. The PGL organizing committee cordially invites scholars, teachers, peace activists and members of the community interested in community issues to join us in the beautiful surroundings of Rikkyo University's Niiza campus for discussion, debate and contemplation, and to come together to realize our potential as co-inhabitants of a shrinking planet.

We are seeking proposals related to (but not limited to) the following topics in connection with the conference theme “Peace and Welfare in the Local and Global Community”.

-Promoting Peace in our Local Community

-Peace and Volunteerism

-Reconstruction of disaster-stricken and decaying communities

-Territorial Disputes

-Promoting peace in aging rural communities

-Local Welfare schemes

-Women's role in the community

-Increasing Community and Family ties

EFL/ESL proposals related to the general theme of the conference are also welcome

The plenary speakers will be Dr John T Denny, speaking on the process of transforming Myanmar from a pariah state into a member of the global community, and Akemi Shimada, speaking on fostering Ainu youth.
