With the advent of social media, there was an explosion of data. Companies like Yahoo, Facebook, Google determined early on that existing databases and analytics technologies will not be sufficient to handle this deluge of data. A new breed of technologies was created that allowed them to store and analyze this massive streams of data. Much of his technology is in open source and is now termed as Big Data. 

Then others noticed, especially enterprises who were looking to harness the powerful social media and other rich data to keep track of customer sentiment and trends. Now that the enterprises have noticed, Big data promises to be a big business. 

SIPA will host a panel discussion on the upcoming trend of Big Data. Specifically the panel will address the following key areas: 

 

  • 1. What are the key business drivers for enterprises and how will analytics change in the Big Data world. How different is it from BI?
  • 2. What are some of the new tools and technologies to power Big Data and what trend should we expect in 2013?
