Description

The early 1990s saw the beginning of a thorough transformation of social, economic and institutional systems in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This process has also had a clear spatial dimension, crucially affecting the development of cities and regions in this part of the continent. The twenty-year time perspective makes it possible to assess the conditions and effects of the process, and what can make it even more interesting is a comparison of the various transformation paths taken by the individual countries. This was the underlying idea when we decided to organise an academic and practical conference on Socio-economic transformation of cities and regions in the post-communists statesbetween 1st  and 3rd September 2013 in Poznan, Poland. The leading themes of the conference will be: 1. Theoretical-methodological foundations of the analysis of the post-communist transformation of cities and regions 2.Identification of areas of growth, stagnation and decline 3.Endogenous and exogenous factors of development of cities and regions in the conditions of the transformation 4.Associations of cities and regions, and how they have changed (at the domestic and international levels) 5.Changes in economic structures as well as social and cultural relations: their spatial dimension 6.Processes of regional integration and disintegration 7.Institutionalisation of the transformation process: new international and regional settings. New forms of management of urban and regional development 8.Innovativeness and creativity as factors of socio-economic development 9.Chief problems of the social and economic transformation as well as prospects and challenges of future development
