Description

Starship Congress, a 4-day summit of top space scientists and experts from related fields is taking place in Dallas, TX later this summer to discuss the possibilities--and implications--of interstellar space exploration. Starship Congress, "the first-ever assemblage of international interstellar space science organizations and proponents," will be held August 15-18, 2013 at the Anatole Hilton in Dallas, Texas. Hosted by space science non-profit Icarus Interstellar, Starship Congress will host a broad-swath of interstellar organizations and distinguished speakers of the interstellar science community. it is being largely sponsored by video game hardware and software developers. Furthermore, the mounting of Starship Congress comes about in order to discuss a matter of astronomical importance: the creation of a global interstellar space exploration initiative. Scheduled to address Starship Congress is at least one space scientist with the rare claim of having already successfully launched an interstellar spacecraft: American mathematician/physicist Dr Michael Minovitch, whose crucial work on gravity-propelled space travel enabled the success of the now-interstellar Voyager space probe.  Alongside Dr Minovitch with be video game/science-fiction artist Stephan Martiniere, whose creative work on such video games as Rage, Stranglehold, and Myst 5 (as well as influential science-fiction films Star Wars II & III, 2009's Star Trek, TRON: Legacy, and the upcoming space travel thriller Guardians of the Galaxy) has launched thousands of imagined journeys through the cosmos. As an opportunity for presentation as well as decision-making, Starship Congress aims to bring the interstellar community together to foster discussion and generate tangible action. Beginning Thursday, August 15 the event will be split into three full-days, with days broken into Near-term, Medium-term and Long-term focuses necessary for the realization of an interstellar accomplishment. The first Starship Congress will conclude after a final assembly on the morning of Sunday, August 18.
