CIEC Overview

The Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration (CIEC) was developed and is operated by four divisions of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The Conference serves as an annual mid-winter meeting for the Cooperative Education Division (CED), the College Industry Partnership Division (CIP), the Continuing Professional Development Division (CPD), and the Engineering Technology Division (ETD). The Conference also serves as a common location and time for additional mid-winter meetings of other engineering education committees or groups. Each year, several groups such as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, (TAC of ABET), the Association for Media-based Continuing Education for Engineers (AMCEE), National Technological University (NTU), and the ASEE Board of Directors, schedule meetings before or after the Conference in the same facility.

The 2001 CIEC is being held at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California. The Conference Theme is "2001 Odyssey: Industry and Education Engineering the Future". Each division has used this theme for its traditional programs. There is a common focus across the divisions highlighting how industry and education can partner most effectively to achieve excellence in all of the areas served by the four divisions. Many unique and interesting papers have been received for inclusion in the program.

This year's conference boasts two outstanding plenary sessions: one focusing on U.S. News and World Report's system of ranking engineering schools and the resulting ramifications for educational institutions, students, and employers; the second plenary features Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse CEO Dennis Yablonsky, on the unique Greenhouse concept and the advancements in the next-generation, system-on-a-chip technology.

We will also enjoy a sunset cruise on the San Diego bay, as well as the opportunity to participate in off-site activities.

This outstanding conference program should enrich all attendees from corporations and educational institutions, while enjoying the magnificent San Diego area.
