Lying on the right bank of the Río de la Plata, Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is the first largest city of the country.
Its streets, monuments, churches, tunnels, squares and convents, treasure one hundred years of history. Extraordinary breathtaking buildings, product of a well defined European heritage give it a singular personality with different architectural styles such as neo-Gothic, French, Italian, coexisting with ultramodern crystal towers.
Buenos Aires is the home of the 173 years old University of Buenos Aires, the only one in Latin America from which three graduates have been awarded with Nobel Prizes in the sciences. Distributed among several key areas of the capital district, its thirteen faculties holds a year to year increasing population of 173.000 students. The University of Buenos Aires is the second oldest University in Argentina, after the prestigious University of Córdoba one of the first in Latin America, founded by the Jesuits by the beginning of the XVII century.
The permanent collections and the constant flow of exhibitions to the museums and several art galleries, invite you to become a part of art. We suggest that you visit the National Museum of Fine Arts, and its collection of European and Argentine paintings, the Museum of Ornamental Art, the Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Music has a privileged place at the Teatro Colón. This magnificent Opera House, located in downtown Buenos Aires, offers a wide variety of internationally acclaimed opera and ballet performances with renowned local and international artists.
Buenos Aires by night continues till dawn. Cafes, restaurants and places to dance are scattered every where and you can go from one to the other in complete safety.
The Obelisco and Corrientes avenue represent the magnetic center of the city´s scenery.
Ranging from the simple to the sophisticated, the traditional restaurants serve beef raised on the Pampas, grilled over hot coals.
Argentina is rich in contrasts, nature rejoices in kilometers of blue sea beaches, polar ice, impressive mountain peaks, rare geological formations, pampean planes, tropical jungles and the largest variety of fauna in the whole world. You can enjoy the great waters rain forest in the far north-east with the Iguazú falls roaring unceasingly; or visit the northwestern area with its high peaks, snowcapped volcanoes, plateaus and deserts. Towards the south, a natural paradise is the patagonian region with the Andes, forests lakes, impressive glaciers and its Atlantic coast with the marine wildlife. The inmense Pampa, land of the freedom–loving gaucho, is a landmark of a country where cattle graze on "estancias", limitless grassy plains.
The scientific programme is supplemented by social events for all scientific participants and accompanying persons. Sufficient rooms are available in all categories withing walking distance or attainable by shuttle bus services.
The Second Circular with the meeting program and the abstract and registration forms will be mailed to ISN and ASN members and to those who send an email to:
