Telematics applications in connection with automatic control and robotics are considered. Here the advances of modern telecommunication and information processing technologies offer an enormous economic potential by enabling the provision of control services at remote locations. The aim of this conference is to survey the state-of-the-art in telematics with emphasis on application aspects. Thus advanced methods related to remote control, distributed control, remote sensor data acquisition, internet use, JAVA applets, CORBA, virtual reality, etc. are applied to develop innovative, efficient solutions in key application areas like tele-operation, tele-maintenance and tele-diagnosis. The broad range of applications includes areas such as traffic control systems, mobile robots for hazardous environments, remote industrial production plants, ship at sea, aerospace systems, maintenance of cars, tele-medicine, tele-education and smart homes.
