INFORMS Marketing Science Conference
|Event Date/Time: Jul 05, 2001||End Date/Time: Jul 08, 2001|
|Paper Submission Date: May 12, 2000|
The conference will offer the usual Smorgasbord of tracks, sessions, and presentations. However, a sizeable number of practitioners will actively participate in the sessions. Many of these managers will present on their own marketing efforts, pose research requests, and, last but certainly not least, will help facilitate future research by offering academic researchers access to data and employees. Responses by managers to actively participate in the conference have been enthusiastic and we should expect challenging and stimulating sessions.
Senior managers of German and European companies and other public figures have agreed to participate in roundtables and discussion sessions.
A special effort will be made to facilitate and encourage doctoral students’ participation in the conference. Details are currently being finalized and will be posted on the conference’s webpage soon.
Things “around” the conference can be expected to be very nice. Look forward to a truly stylish conference site, foods reflecting traditional and new German cuisine throughout the conference (yes, there are German dishes for vegetarians), an interesting spouse program, and a conference dinner on a ship cruising the world-famous Rhine valley. The cruise’s date is fortunate as it coincides with the large fire-works called “Rhine in Flames” which brightens up castles, villages, and, hopefully, your evening.
A wide range of hotels is within walking distance to the conference site, i.e., 1-3 minutes. Check the conference’s webpage for practical information on airfares, hotels, cabs, trains, etc. Additionally, infos on shopping, museums, theatres, Rhine cruises, entertainment, etc. will be made available.
Let me add that Wiesbaden is one of the most charming, cosmopolitan, and beautiful cities in Germany.
See you soon and “Bis bald”,

THE RHINE - MAIN AREA -with its three main cities Frankfurt, Mainz and Wiesbaden, represents a unique mix of German tradition and modern prosperity. The city of Mainz can look back at a history lasting 2000 years. For example, in the tenth century Mainz had ascended to become the religious and intellectual centre of medieval Germany, resulting in a multitude of historic sites and world-famous traditions such as the carnival procession. Mainz's most famous "son" is Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing process, was recently dubbed the "Man of the Millennium" by Time magazine. The city of Frankfurt/Main has a leading role as the heart of Germany's business. This booming and vivid city hosts in its center city and its surrounding villages the headquarters and subsidiaries of many well known companies including Deutsche Bank, Motorola, and Proctor & Gamble. Wiesbaden, with its hot springs (120 degrees Fahrenheit) has a long tradition as one of Europe's leading health resorts and cosmopolitan places, thus being a magnet for Europe’s rich and mighty for centuries. Wiesbaden sports the world's highest density of classicism villas and one of Germany´shighest per-capita incomes. The city intrigues visitors with elegant shops, fancy boulevards, and a most charming center-city. At Wiesbaden's outset, just a few minutes by car, the scenic Rheingau with its Riesling white wine, numerous castles and monasteries along the banks of the Rhine river all but guarantees an unforgettable experience. Have fun!
