Drug Discovery Technology 2000 an Exciting Success

Drug Discovery Technology 2000 grew by more than 100% this year. Over 3,800 conference and exhibit hall attendees passed through the registration system, far surpassing our initial expectations. [Growth graph] There was a definite buzz of excitement in the air at the ribbon cutting ceremony to kick-off the opening of the exhibit hall of over 200 booths, and a warm welcome was given to all exhibitors and attendees by Joseph J. Donovan, Director of Emerging Technology Development, on behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the governor.

Keynote Presentations
Endless networking, learning and informational opportunities were available during the conference, starting with the keynote presentations by J. Craig Venter, Frank Douglas and Steven Ley, to the awe-inspiring production to introduce the keynote presentation of Lawrence J. DeLucas, which took place in the exhibit hall. In cooperation with NASA, Dr. DeLucas gave a fascinating presentation about his experience doing scientific research in space which included anecdotes of some of the funny things that happen when working in zero gravity. A fantastic video produced by NASA and footage of space endeavors kept hundreds of delegates enthralled for almost an hour. Dr. DeLucas signed autographed photographs of himself in his space suit for over two hours following his presentation!

Phenomenal Networking Opportunities
Roundtable discussions, product demonstrations, oral poster presentations and numerous conference sessions and focus groups gave attendees a tremendous opportunity to interact throughout the event. The exhibit hall was packed with people from opening to closing and the 200+ exhibitors were kept busy generating and qualifying prospects for three days. The quality of traffic provided in the exhibit hall was so fantastic that a phenomenal 84% of exhibitors rebooked their exhibit booths for 2001 before they left this year's event!

Several successful press briefings and the 40+ new product launches at this year's conference attracted over 100 press attendees to the event and several stories about the conference have been written by both the scientific and business press which should continue the momentum of the event into next year.

On behalf of IBC USA Conferences and the Drug Discovery Technology 2000 team, I would like to thank all of the speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and attendees of this year's event, whose participation helped to make it such a huge success. This meeting has truly become the World's Drug Discovery Meeting Place.

Sincerely,
Michael P. Keenan
