Possibilities and limitations of medicinal and aromatic plants production towards the 21st century

Based on discussions at the ICMAP Congress held in Mendoza, it was decided to organise a World Congress of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Budapest in 2001.

Main subjects of the Congress:

I.Biological Background of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Production

role of indigenous populations
gene reservation
biological, chemical aspects
cultivars and their utilisation
II.Chemical Aspect of Exploitation and Production of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

new natural substances of plant origin
phytoanalitical methods
standardisation of raw materials and products
III.Production of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

collection in the wild
traditional cultivation method
cultivation methods based on continuous quality assurance systems (GAP)
alternative cultivation methods (bio-, organic-, ecological, etc.)
biological, chemical, and ecological aspects of raw production
IV.Processing of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

quality control
post-harvest processing

regulations for the exploitation and protection of the wild flora
national and international trade regulations
trends in the registration of phytopharmaceuticals

The programme will include will include a range of activities such as:

invited and contributed oral presentations
poster presentations
short post-congress tours
visit to firms specialising in the cultivation of MAP
visit to research institutions
visit to wild MAP growing areas
one-week post-congress tour (FIP-pharmacobotanical excursion)
sightseeing tour (Budapest and surroundings)
cultural programmes
Official language of the Congress: English (interpretation is provided according to demand)
