Description Purpose of the Symposium

The aim of the Symposium is to promote the exchange of information and ideas about peach research among scientists and specialists with different training and experiences from around the world. The Symposium will provide a setting for discussion of both fundamental and applied aspects of peach research.

Contributions

The official language of the Symposium will be English. Contributed papers will be presented both orally and by posters. Final acceptance of papers and how they will be presented will be made by the Scientific Committee after abstracts have been received. Invited summary lectures will also be given at the beginning of each major session. All papers presented at the Symposium will be reviewed and published in a volume of Acta Horticulturae.

January 31, 2001:
Submission of titles of papers

March 31, 2001:
Registration and submission of abstracts

July 8, 2001:
Submission of full paper



Symposium Topics

1. Genetics & Molecular Biology - inheritance of traits, genetic transformations, gene mapping

2. Applied Breeding - breeding for varieties, rootstocks, tree architecture, pest resistance

3. Environmental Physiology - photo-synthesis, respiration & carbon relations, water & nutrient relations, stress physiology, temperature responses, dormancy

4. Fruit Development - flowering, fruit set, fruit growth, metabolism

5. Postharvest Technology - fruit maturity, postharvest physiology, fruit quality, marketing, consumer preferences

6. Cultural Practices - floor management, training systems, rootstocks, pruning, growth regulators, irrigation, thinning

7. Pest Management - insects, diseases, nematodes, weeds & cover crops, organic growing, reduced pesticides
