BioMedical Sciences in the Post Genomic Era : Challenges and Opportunities

Singapore's Vision for Biomedical Sciences

Singapore’s vision is to be a World-Class Hub for Biomedical Sciences, with capabilities across the entire value chain - from research to manufacturing and regional headquarters.

In the coming years, Singapore expects robust growth in the fields of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare service and biotechnology. By year 2010, Singapore aims to be home to 15 world-class companies, and a regional centre for clinical trials and drug development. Singapore will invest in R&D and manpower development, and nurture start-up companies through co-investments and venture capital. Efforts to attract international talents as well as build up local talents for the Biomedical Sciences Industry will also be put in place.

The excellent Intellectual Property Rights and regulatory infrastructure, skilled workforce and conducive environment for R&D, as well as availability of venture funding for start-up investments are some of the key factors that will contribute to the high growth of the Biomedical Sciences sector in Singapore.

BioMedical Asia 2001 Symposium and Exhibition

Jointly organised by the Singapore Economic Development Board and the National Science and Technology Board, and with Science Magazine as the scientific partner, this inaugural conference-cum-exhibition will launch Singapore into the industry spotlight. It will be the Asia-Pacific's first annual forum for discussing emerging technologies, global industry trends as well as legal, ethical and social issues arising from biomedical research.

This event will draw together 1,000 top scientists, clinicians and industry players from around the world and provide superb networking opportunities. Dynamic speakers confirmed for the event include eminent scientists and industry experts.
