The Ministry of Commerce & Industry in association with the Bahrain Defence Force, The Bahrain Society of Engineers and the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre is organizing the “First Middle East Metrology Conference & Exhibition” which will be held under the patronage of H.E. Ali Bin Saleh Al Saleh, Minister of Commerce & Industry at the Gulf International Convention Centre - Gulf Hotel, Bahrain from 6-8 May 2002.

The Arabic countries and the Middle East are an immense market with a total population of over 200 million and a potential workforce of about 100 million. The coming two decades will see a strong development of the existing Oil, Petro-Chemical, Metal and Construction Industries driven by a steady flow of “Petro-Dollars” but also an extensive diversification into new industries from Engineering, Electronics and Metal Downstream Industries to Food Supply Chain and Consumer Goods.

It is vital for the development of the new industries that universal standards and accurate measurements are introduced to ensure that all goods and services are produced in line with international market requirements. There are virtually unlimited opportunities for science, industry and trade to introduce metrology know-how and advanced measurement standards and technologies to the fast emerging markets in this part of the world.
