Under the auspices of the Transport Board, the Institution of Civil Engineers is mounting a two day conference to consider metros, the best practice on a worldwide basis. The conference will focus on systems that are, or will be, benchmarks both of excellence and best practice. In bringing together the international community, it is hoped that delegates will have the opportunity to exchange views and experiences whilst looking to the future.


The conference will address four main topics:
· Regional metros
· New lines and systems design
· Rehabilitation of old metros
· Systems integration management

Within these topics, speakers will consider the development, design, construction, operation, maintenance, management and rehabilitation of projects and case studies from over a dozen countries, in the UK and Europe, South East Asia, Scandinavia and the United States. Speakers will also cover a number of additional dimensions to demonstrate particular successes and innovations including planning, funding, integration and architecture.

It will also be of interest to all those involved in the development, design, construction, operation, maintenance, management and rehabilitation of metro systems.


Registered delegates will be issued with a CD Rom of the speakers’ papers one month prior to the conference. In addition, a one page abstract of each presentation will be issued at the meeting.
