As such, considerable emphasis will be placed on encouraging and facilitating the attendance of participants from around the world and on maintaining the dialogue between researchers interested in technological applications and in more fundamental studies of the physics and chemistry of these materials. Special support schemes will be available for students, and the programme will be designed to allow adequate, pedagogical coverage of the background to the topics included.
The programme will be organized around several strong current themes in ionic liquid research spanning both the low temperature systems, involving some complex organic ion, and high temperature inorganic systems. Each of the themes will be introduced by a substantial invited lecture, and followed by shorter (~30 min) lectures on related topics of current interest, so that well ordered sessions which allow a comprehensive coverage of the themes will result.
