Greetings from President:
It is my great honor and privilege to organize the 66th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS), which will be held in Sapporo, Japan, on April 24-26, 2002. I would like to extend my cordial invitation to you to actively participate in this Meeting.
In February 2001, the whole sequencing of the human genome was reported by two groups, led by Francis Collins and Craig Venter. With the completion of this Human Genome Project, we may have a powerful tool for unlocking the secrets of our genome. The human genome has been called the Book of Life, and may have a direct impact on reshaping our standards of understanding of the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. The main theme of this meeting is "Future Perspectives of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Post-Genome Era and Renewed Dedication to our Society". The meeting will focus on the integrating scientific knowledge about genes into the physiological environment of functioning cells, tissues and organs. The meeting will also provide advanced information about issues relating to diagnosing and treating patients.
The scientific program will continue the tradition of the former JCS meetings held in the past. That is, a large portion of the program will be devoted to oral and poster presentations selected from the abstracts submitted by the participants. Now, the Organizing Committee of the 66th JCS is carefully planning a scientific program.
Sapporo, the fifth largest city in Japan, boasts a safe environment to enjoy its beautiful and historical sites with the majesty of a stunning natural environment. The 66th JCS will provide travel fellowships to help colleagues from other Asian countries and elsewhere to participate. Be a part of this exciting movement by submitting your abstracts and attending this meeting, where we are sure you will find the presentations of value and will enjoy the friendly academic atmosphere.
