We are delighted to provide you with the preliminary information concerning the BES 2002 meeting. This meeting will be held in Harrogate, the third time we will have visited this venue. There is a very full programme with multiple strands, comprising five plenary lectures, seven symposia, four clinical management workshops and seven 'meet the expert' sessions. The aim has been to provide a rich and stimulating programme covering both basic and clinical aspects of the latest most cutting edge work in endocrinology.

Harrogate will be well known to most seasoned attendees at the BES. It is situated close to the city of York and with easy access to the Dales, and local attractions include The Pumprooms, Turkish Baths, Ornamental Gardens, and of course Betty’s Tearooms.

Earlier this year we conducted an audit into endocrinologists’ musical activities. We were delighted to uncover a large number of musicians with a great array of talents. This year we are proposing that after our welcome by the Mayor of Harrogate at the Monday reception there will be a performance of the BES Orchestra directed by the Chairman of the POC and conducted by none other than Maestro John Wass. The traditional golf tournament will take place on Monday afternoon at The Oakdale Golf Club. The banquet will be held in 'The Old Swan Hotel' famous for entertaining writers including Agatha Christie.

We hope that our banquet will be as exciting as the hotels murder/mystery weekends. Prizes will be announced at the dinner, and there will be entertainment including tabletop magic, tattoos, a disco and an after dinner speaker.

We look forward to seeing you there!
