From the simple idea of bonding organic groups to silicon atoms in chains of inorganic siloxanes, silicone products have now developed into a multi-billion dollar industry. By the time this conference is held, it is estimated that global sales will exceed $11 billion.

The first commercial use for basic inert silicone fluids was in 1945 as damping fluids for military aircraft. Tens of thousands of commercial products are now available for a
multitude of industries. Chemists, physicists and colloid scientists continue to provide a constant stream of new products and application ideas.

Advanced technologies depend upon advanced materials, and silicones satisfy this need. The pace of development in terms of products, end user and methods of application has accelerated as novel technologies are married to the basic chemistry to create new users. The industry is more dynamic than ever. The future is silicone and the debate continues........

This series of conferences is designed to present the leading edge of international development in silicones and related
products which hold a significant position in the coatings and surface treatment areas.
