Description

Objectives

The conference will bring together hydrologists and ecologists interested in the dynamics of semiarid systems. The focus will be to explore methodologies and models
(conceptual and mathematical) that will advance the understanding of and ability to predict interactions. Specific attention will focus on the interactions between
climate, vegetation, and hydrologic factors such as runoff, evapotranspiration, and soil moisture, from the patch to the landscape scale, and how they may be altered
by changes in vegetation cover.

Goals

To improve the understanding of

* runoff and erosion processes at a number of scales;
* interactions between soil water and vegetation;
* the role of ecological disturbance in the evolution of vegetation patterns

Preliminary Topics

* Horizontal Fluxes: Scaling Relationship, Modeling Strategies, Field Observations, and Indicators
* Horizontal Fluxes: Role of Disturbance, Threshold Responses
* Vertical Fluxes: Evapotranspiration, Scaling Relationships, Linking Across Scales
* Vertical Fluxes: Climate and Vegetation Interactions
