Dear Collegues,

After a series of four high-level scientific conferences in Neuroscience in general and in Neurobiochemistry and Cellular Neurobiology the “5th Neurochemistry Winter Conference” will be held again at Central Hotel Sölden in Austria, from April 5 – 10, 2003. The next conference will focus on drug abuse and plasticity, monoamine control of development and plasticity and stem cells.

These topics will be covered by keynote lecutres and symposia. However, any contributions from participants in the field of basic and clinical Neuroscience are welcome. Submitted abstracts will be selcted for oral presentation or poster presentation by the organisers.

The preliminary list of speakers and titles includes:

Kurt Hauser, USA: Stem cells and adult neurogenesis
Florian Holsboer, Germany: Pharmacogenomics of antidepressant drug therapy
Luc Maroteaux, France: 5-HT2B receptor as morphogen
Klaus Ballanyi, Canada: Monoaminergic control of breathing
George Richerson, USA: Hypoxia and Serotonin
Gordon Mitchell, USA: Spinal cord injury and Serotonin
Regino Perez-Polo, USA: Gene networks activated by trauma in ther nervous system, a
genomic approach
Klaus-Peter Lesch, Germany: Serotonin transporter and depression
Jan Pierre Hornung, Switzerland: Serotonin and cortex development
Antonio Persico, Italy: Serotonin transpoerter and apoptosis
Jean Lauder, USA: Serotonin as trophic factor

Sölden is one of the major ski resorts in Austria and ample time for skiing will be provided during the conference. Central Hotel is a top rated hotel with spa facilities and a gourmet restaurant. Registered participants will receive a reduced rate at this hotel. Unlimited low cost accommodation is available in walking distance of the conference hotel.

Please note, that we also offer a reduced registration fee for young scientists (students and post docs up to 4 years after the degree).

Symposia can be proposed on any topic in Neuroscience/Neurochemistry. Symposia organisers should submit a title of the symposium, names, affiliations and titles of presentations of 4-5 speakers as well as a written statement of speakers’ agreement to participate under the published conditions. Selection of symposia will be made by the local organisers. Symposia are not financially supported by the local organisers, but the registration fee of the selcected symposium organisers will be waived. Symposia organisers are free to raise sponsorship money for their symposia. All participants and speakers need to pay the published registration fee.
