The area of pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement continues to be complex, controversial and varied. The primary focus for the conference will be pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement in the US. With the current price regulation proposals in the US among the state and federal governments, including reference pricing, which has been used in Europe, we will welcome some European presenters on Day Two to look at options employed by other nations and how they have or have not worked. The convergence of US and European pricing will be addressed and we will look at how companies use differential global pricing strategies to promote equitable access to products worldwide.
Due to the significant amount of government action in the last year revolving around initiatives by individual states to regulate pricing in various ways, we will review the litigation in this area. The government is raising questions about the manufacturers reported "average wholesale prices", which are used to determine payments under the Medicare and Medicaid programmers - a roundtable discussion with a mixed panel will provide some interesting, if differing points of view on this subject.
