This symposium assembles scientists with expertise in the pathogenesis of AD with others studying the
molecular and cellular basis for synaptic development and function. The objectives are to discuss how the pathological mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease cause specific synaptic changes and how this synaptic dysfunction yields the cognitive decline. Enlightened by recent genetic studies of AD, this discussion will include possible therapeutic strategies.

Conference Sessions:
Cell survival and neurodegeneration
Neurotransmitter vesicles and receptors
Modulation of synaptic structure and function
RNAs and proteins in dendrites and spines
Expression of synapse-related messages and proteins in AD
Synapse number synaptotoxicity in AD
Signaling cascades in AD
