The Viva! Spanish film festival is the UK’s premiere festival devoted to contemporary Spanish cinema. A lively mixture of premieres and retrospectives, the festival has boasted some important guests over recent years including Julio Medem, Jose Luis Borau, Elvira Lindo and Alex de la Iglesia. What better context to host a conference devoted to Contemporary Spanish Cinema?

We are pleased to announce that this year keynote speakers will include Paul Julian Smith one of the leading authorities on contemporary Spanish cinema.

We invite proposals (around 250 words) for papers on any aspect of contemporary Spanish cinema. These should reach us by Friday 17th January and may include, for example, studies of:

Individual films
Film Policy in Spain
Contexts of production
Producers
Genre in contemporary cinema
Regional and national cinemas
Representation of national identity
Stars, inside and outside Spain
Contemporary auteurs
