<font color="#000000">The Reputation Institute is pleased to invite you
to participate in the 6th International Conference on Corporate Reputation
in Boston, May 23-25, 2002. Our first conference was held at the Stern
School in New York in January 1997, and sponsored by the Royal Dutch/Shell
Group. The 2nd Conference was held in Amsterdam in January 1998, and was
sponsored by ING Group, a global financial services company. The 3rd conference
was held in January 1999 in San Juan, P.R. and was sponsored by Shandwick
International, a global communications company. We held the 4th conference
in Copenhagen, Denmark. And last year's 5th conference, sponsored by Euro
RSCG, was held in Paris, France and attracted some 200 participants from
around the world.
This year's conference in Boston will devote particular attention to the
timely topic of social responsibility and examine cutting-edge learning
about the relationship between social responsibility, corporate citizenship,
and corporate reputation. We invite you to participate in developing a
full program of research panels, roundtables, and case studies on these
and other topics related to corporate reputation -and have a good time
doing it!</font>

Special Conference Focus: A growing number of researchers and practitioners
are recognizing the importance of a firm's social responsibility in generating
competitive advantage. We particularly invite submissions that address
social responsibility and its role in enhancing corporate reputation and
competitiveness. To improve their competitive positions, companies are
recognizing that they must fulfill broader roles as good corporate citizens,
thereby meeting the expanded expectations of today's demanding customers
and communities. Various studies have suggested that social responsibility
positively affects both corporate reputation and image. It also has profound
effects on how employees identify with companies, and influences their
sense of commitment, loyalty, and involvement with their employers' activities.
Papers are expected to reflect cutting-edge academic and practitioner
views of social responsibility, corporate identity, reputation, and corporate
communications. Given the paucity of rigorous theorizing and empirical
analysis, theory-building papers and data-based research are particularly
welcome. We encourage multi-disciplinary perspectives that recognize overlapping
themes between strategic management, organization theory, marketing, and
communications.
Pre-Conference Consortium: Additionally, we will once again host a popular
pre-conference program for doctoral students on May 23rd, 2002. Prospective
participants can download information about it from the conference website,
and can also contact Prof. David Deephouse directly [<a href="mailto:David.Deephouse@ualberta.ca"><font color="#CC6666">David.Deephouse@ualberta.ca</font>]. </font>

<font color="#000000">The conference officially begins on Thursday evening,
May 23rd, 2002, and will be followed by two full days of presentations
and discussions. Previous conferences indicate the desirability of maintaining
a dialogue between the worlds of research and practice at RI Forums. To
that end, we invite submissions in three forms:
· Academic Proposals: Theoretical development and empirical research on
social responsibility and corporate reputation, image and communication.
· Practitioner Proposals: Case studies that demonstrate a company's experience(s)
with social responsibility and corporate reputation efforts.
· Innovative Ideas: These could include roundtables, discussion groups,
structured debates or other formats that focus on a special topic involving
social responsibility, corporate reputation, image or communication.
To be eligible as a panelist for the conference, you must submit a fully-drafted
paper or detailed session proposal (up to 3 pages) by February 15, 2002
via e-mail to Anna-Lisa Wolters [<a href="mailto:Anna-Lisa.Wolters@dartmouth.edu"><font color="#CC6666">Anna-Lisa.Wolters@dartmouth.edu</font>].
The cover page should include address, phone, fax, and e-mail for all
proposed authors/participants. Submissions will be reviewed and accepted
papers/proposals will be notified by April 1, 2002. For more information
about submissions, please contact <a href="mailto:Anna-Lisa.Wolters@dartmouth.edu">
<font color="#CC6666">Anna-Lisa Wolters</font> by email or by phone

We welcome all creative ideas for improving our understanding about how
reputations are constructed, valued, destroyed, recreated, and managed
through social responsibility. Use of video, multimedia, and other innovative
presentation formats is very much encouraged.</font>
<font color="#000000"><font face="arial, helvetica" size="-1"><font color="#000000"><font color="#666666"></font></font></font><font color="#666666">Location:</font></font>
<font color="#000000">The conference will be held at the Boston Sheraton
Hotel (<a href="http://www.starwood.com/sheraton"><font color="#CC6666">http://www.starwood.com/sheraton</font>).
The Sheraton is located next to the Hynes Convention Center and is minutes
from restaurants, shopping, theatres and museums. Boston's cultural and
academic vitality, combined with the dynamic downtown location of the
Sheraton, create a perfect setting for intellectual exchange and learning.
We anticipate that room costs at the Sheraton will come in at the favorable
rate of approximately $175. We will also arrange for less expensive accommodations
of $100 a night at nearby hotels.
