This course is oriented toward those who will work at either generating or utilizing wind tunnel test results. The course will discuss fundamental principles of ground test facility testing as applied to aerospace research and development. Sponsored by the Ground Test Technical Committee, the program will provide an overview of the many facets of testing aerodynamic vehicles, primarily in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic facilities. Although this course uses wind tunnel testing as its basis, the principles and techniques discussed apply to all manner of ground based test facilities (airbreathing engine and components, rocket test, etc). The first day of the course concentrates on general ground testing concepts, including test preparation, tools, conduct, and management. The second day more specifically addresses wind tunnel testing, including types of facilities and tests, test articles, data analysis, and potential future improvements/developments in testing technology. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the many facets of wind tunnel testing, accepted practices, and procedures for operating ground test facilities and interpreting the results from test programs. Several key leaders in the ground testing community with decades of testing experience will present the material, and attendees will be presented with a broad range of sources for additional information.
