This course offers detailed information on various technologies developed under the National Combustion Code (NCC) effort at the NASA Glenn Research Center for high-fidelity simulations of complex combustion systems. While the main focus of the code development effort has been simulating jet-engine combustor flows, the technologies developed are applicable to a variety of combustion systems. Technologies discussed include computational modules for turbulence, chemistry, chemistry-turbulence interactions, and liquid spray transport and evaporation. The status of technologies under development will also be presented. An example of the transfer of NCC technologies to a small company (Flow Parametrics) is provided, as well as examples of applying NCC technologies to various projects of interest to NASA Glenn. The intent of this course is to facilitate the technology transfer of non-proprietary modules to U.S. companies and government institutions.
