Description You are cordially invited to attend the 3rd Annual Colloquium on the Biomechanics of Adhesion Molecules, to be held at the University of Virginia on July 12 and 13, 2002. This is a small, focused discussion on the biology and biophysics of receptors, their ligands, and their behaviors under load. The conference this year will be held in the new Biomedical Engineering and Medical Research Building, with mid-conference dinner to be held at Thomas Jefferson’s historic Rotunda.

Deborah Leckband of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign will be our keynote speaker this year. Along with other speakers, Dr. Leckband will contribute her expertise on the function and structure of cadherens. We will also discuss the biophysics of selectins, integrins and other receptors at the levels of single molecules, isolated cells, and intact tissues. An entire session will be dedicated to clinical applications of receptor biology.

Please consider submitting an abstract for a platform or poster presentation. Online abstract submission, meeting registration and other information may be found at the conference web site, <a href="http://www.med.virginia.edu/bme/colloquium">http://www.med.virginia.edu/bme/colloquium. Abstracts are due July 1, 2002. Online registration will be accepted until the day of the conference.
