Description The move towards STP implementation is gaining urgency. In view of the transition to T+1 in June 2005, financial firms will have to be in a position to make the changes needed to develop and market new products faster than the competition. Other key developments redefining the industry strategies and contributing to an acceleration towards STP implementation are the split of axion 4 from the GSTPA, the growing use of VMUs and the proposed new Basel Capital Accord which has stimulated a major effort to dramatically increase the quantification of operational risk.

This 4th annual event aims at being a forum for discussion amongst industry players and practitioners to refocus the attention on the starting and ending points of STP. It seems that the different segments of the industry are loosing track of the main drivers and goals leading to STP and STP has therefore lost its context. There is a crucial need to reassess and redefine the true benefits of achieving STP for the whole industry (a part from the reduction of costs) to foster co-ordination and co-operation amongst all the players. Main issues like achieving a greater integration between the front office and the middle office and the assessment of the role of the middle office will be thoroughly analysed. In light of the above, this brainstorming forum is specifically devised to give concrete answers to the controversial question “Why STP?” and to equip the participants with the solutions to effectively improve the automation of the whole trading cycle to successfully compete in the e-Business environment.
