Description

The Sixth Annual Institute on Research in Psychology of Aging. Nationally recognized experts in research methodology will lead a training institute specifically designed for psychology faculty who received their doctoral degree at least 3 years ago in any area of psychology. The institute, sponsored by APA's Division 20, and funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), aims to strengthen participants' knowledge and skills essential for developing an active research agenda and integrating scholarship with teaching. The institute will be held at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota overlooking beautiful Lake Superior July 20-30, 2003. The participants will have the opportunity to obtain individualized consultation with distinguished professors and NIA staff, to interact with members of previous cohorts, and to review successful proposals developed by past participants. A unique feature of this year's Institute will be the opportunity for the new participants to interact with members of
previous cohorts who have been successful in obtaining NIA funding and engaging their students in aging research.

Program design includes two follow-up meetings: one in February of 2004 and the other in the summer of 2004. Food, lodging, and travel support will be provided to the 15 applicants selected to participate in the program. To date, fourteen participants have already received NIA funding and others are in the process of preparing their grant applications. All of them have given outstanding ratings to the Institute, have incorporated new content in their courses, and have engaged their students in aging research. Please visit the program Web site: www.css.edu/depts/grad/nia for additional information including names of past participants and topics of proposals submitted to date.
