This Conference is intended for professionals and organisations involved in all aspects of the prevention, control and research related to violence, suicide, unintentional injury and safety in general. These include researchers and practitioners in the domain of safety, experts on regulation and legislation, coroners, politicians, health professionals, physicians, medical examiners, business and industry, product designers, engineers as well as representatives of community, consumer and victim organisations. A special invitation is extended to disadvantaged groups, victims and participants from developing countries.
1. Strengthen injury prevention in national and international public health policies and programs;
2. Highlight the following international injury prevention activities: the 2004 World Health Day on Traffic Injuries, the Global Report on Violence, the Child Safety Charter for Europe
3. Increase collaboration between professionals working in unintentional and intentional injury;
4. Facilitate the participation of experts from low-income countries through scholarships.
The conference will include plenary sessions on topics of concern to all professions (e.g., the influence of the media on the safety of populations; the role of policies and laws) and state-of-the-art presentations focusing on their respective fields. Additionally, parallel sessions which will be organised around the following conference themes:

§ Disaster Prevention and Civil Protection
§ Post Trauma Management
Participants will also have opportunities for direct involvement through giving oral presentations, poster displays, video submissions, satellite meetings and exhibits. A general call for abstracts will be issued in March 2003.
