After Kyoto, Florence, Barcelona, Xi'an, Krakow and Montpellier, the City of Montréal will be welcoming the 8th World Conference of Historical Cities, from October 6 to 8, 2003.

You can find full description of the event and get all the information needed on the following web site : www.vieux.montreal.qc.ca/2003

Municipal administrations regularly find themselves at the heart of debates and controversies surrounding the protection and development of their cities' heritage. Elected officials must constantly respond to proponenets of both consevation and redevelopment. They have to reach a consesnsus or, failing that, make a final decision.

At this unique event, a first in North America, the elected officials of member cities of the League of Historical Cities, an international organization bringing together 61 cities in 49 countries, will share their experiences, discuss their approaches to their built heritage and compare their results.

This Conference is a fascinating opportunity for elected municipal officials, heritage managers, researchers and anyone interested in these issues.
