The Old Continent is facing another enlargement of the EU. All the sides involved in this process will therefore have to cope with a lot of economic, social, cultural and other types of problems arising from the process of European integration. We thus think that complex and multidisciplinary analyses are needed. We believe that a multidisciplinary conference, combining economic, sociological and other related issues referring to European integration, could contribute to the general discussion on issues of accession and enlargement that is currently being held. The main purpose of the Conference is to point out some of the most important problems that the integrated Europe has to deal with. We wish to approach these problems from the point of view of an economist, a sociologist, an econometrician, a citizen as well as a representative of the authorities.

The Conference is intended to provide the participants (mainly young academics such as Ph.D. students, post-docs and assistant professors) with a chance to meet and bring forward their views concerning the problems of European integration. However, the Conference is by no means restricted to academics – other professionals, who work in socio-economic fields and who would like to write a paper or an essay and take part in a discussion on the development of European integration, are also welcome. We expect to welcome 150 participants from Central and Eastern Europe, the European Union as well as all other countries. The Conference will be made up by four plenary sessions, during which several prominent Invited Speakers will provide an introduction for further panel discussions. Each panel will include thematic sessions on some more specific issues. However, we would like to emphasise that papers on other issues, which are nevertheless related somewhat to the session themes, are also welcome. The programme of the Conference is briefly outlined below.
