At the conclusion of this meeting, the participant will have gained increased understanding of the role of proteins in the pharmcology of anesthetic drugs. This includes understanding: The processes that control protein folding and conformation; the role of genetics and informatics in determining protein function; how proteins function as micro-machines: the mechanics of anesthetic action on ligand gated ion channels; the current status of the "lipid target" vs. "protein target" debate about the site of inhaled anesthetic action; how protein structure is used to develop novel drugs; and fundamental ways in which anesthetics alter the structure and functions of proteins.
