Summary of conference This is the very first time that EF is organizing Insurance conference for CEE market. EU candidate countries have undertaken far-reaching reforms in liberalisation and deregulation of the insurance market adapting their insurance legislation to EU standards. The new legislation has resulted in increased foreign presence in the insurance market, intensifying competition and reducing the market share controlled by former state run insurance monopolies. Still, further deregulation is needed to meet Western European standards. In some countries as in Poland the new Insurance Law, which was to be announced at the beginning of July 2003 is experiencing a set back. It has been recently announced that the new Law will be introduced on the 1st January 2003. There are still some of the issues in the proposed draft of the Law which are not parallel to the EU legislation, said Tomasz Minoft-Czyý, the President of the Polish Association of Insurance and Re-Insurance Brokers. With the legislation not quite ready for the accession the main objectives for the insurance industries in CEE are: How to maintain position on the market? How to survive the difficult transition times? How to boost insurance products sales? How to minimise the risks involved? Our conference will answer all the above questions. There is the need to deal with the legal side having a definite impact on the industry as well as the business side, which was always important for our delegates.
