IHI has been working with innovative health care organizations and external experts to develop new methods for improving the smooth and timely flow of patients through hospital departments. These improvement efforts are showing that it is possible to reduce waits and delays in hospital care by improving the flow of patients and information throughout the care system. The by-products of these efforts have included increases access, shorter waiting times, lower costs, and better outcomes.
