Unmanned vehicles may be autonomous or remotely-piloted. Autonomous unmanned vehicles have cooperative onboard information processing or decision making capabilities that help them perform various tasks such as obstacle avoidance, data collection, situation assessment, terrain mapping, swarm reconnaissance or cooperative mission planning in a complex and uncertain environment with minimal or no intervention from a remote human operator.

We invite researchers from the civilian or the defense industry, government, and the academia to submit papers covering theory, design, development or applications for the special session on "Intelligent Unmanned Vehicle Systems".

The topics for this session include:

Civilian Applications

1. autonomous beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) agricultural robot control

2. robots for search and rescue operations

3. homeland security

4. adaptive prosthetic systems

5. intelligent networked home systems

Defense Applications

1. auto take-off and landing systems

2. autonomous formation flight control systems

3. platform stabilizers for marine or submarine systems

4. cooperative waypoint path planning for UAVs, UGVs or UNVs

5. cooperative detection of ‘hiding zones’ in hostile environment for UAVs, UGVs or UNVs

6. automated target identification and acquisition systems

7. autonomous hazard assessment systems

8. mine mapping and de-mining operations

9. protocols for communication between swarms of autonomous vehicles

10. protocols for distributed onboard computing for robot swarms

11. battlefield sensor deployment algorithms

Instructions for preparing the manuscript are provided at [http://ciras.nus.edu.sg/2003/submission.html]. Papers for this special session must be submitted ONLY by email to one of the persons listed below. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
