The Banking and Financial Services segment in India has remained at the forefront of the IT revolution sweeping the country. Banks in India were among the first to deploy IT and automate their operations to gain efficiencies, improve overall productivity and beef up customer support.
With their extensive IT budgets, BFSI institutions continue to create major revenue opportunities for India’s IT solutions providers. From traditional software and connectivity solutions, to new service delivery technologies such as ATMs, mobile and Internet banking—the BFSI sector is rapidly moving up the IT value chain. The goal of this segment—to deliver “anytime, anywhere” services to customers is being realized through the use of IT.
Recognizing the significance of the BFSI sector as an implementer of IT solutions and its future potential as a purchaser of state-of-the-art technologies, NASSCOM is hosting a conference dedicated to this industry. The aim of IT@BFSI 2003 is also to provide a fillip to the domestic IT industry by creating awareness about IT benefits among the BFSI user community.
The conference will address private and public sector banks and other financial institutions such as RBI, leading insurance organizations, among others.
IT@BFSI will feature talks by industry gurus and presentations by consultants, IT vendors and representatives of the BFSI sector. The focus will be to provide insights on the importance of IT and how it can be harnessed to make the BFSI segment a hot growth environment. The event will be held on 14th October 2003 at Hotel Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
Many large and small banks, financial services and insurance companies are taking to IT. The IT adoption wave, generated by private sector MNC players within the banking pack, has touched India’s large and small PSU banks and financial institutions as well. Increased competition from IT savvy foreign banks and specific computerization guidelines laid down by the Reserve Bank of India, have catalyzed the adoption of IT by Indian banks.
The key to a successful IT strategy is a robust knowledge management infrastructure, which uses business intelligence tools. It also includes enterprise wide application integration across functions and a healthy business process management approach.
The current applications landscape is vast. From front desk to back-end secured payment gateways--banks are truly cashing in on technology! Retail banking, the new mantra in the banking sector, is witnessing the implementation of technology solutions to expand the range of customer offerings. Internet banking, phone banking, mobile banking, ATM and bill payments are the new buzzwords that banks are using to entice customers. Many banks have implemented core-banking software and communications systems to enhance their operational efficiency.
