The California energy crisis has impacted and challenged the entire western power region. There is heavy transmission congestion and the power supply is stretched throughout the entire region. Power is sold across western state lines daily but there are different market rules for each state. Certain areas are growing faster than others and therefore require more power. The drought as of late has put a strain on the hydro capacity that the Northwest can output. The geography of the area is unique and the grid is not as ‘complete’ as the eastern grid in the U.S. The West wants their state regulators to have a louder voice with the FERC. The new edition of the SMD, the Wholesale Power Market Platform is encouraging all suppliers to join an RTO—West Connect, RTO West and CAISO are working together to make a smooth transition.

Attend CBI’s timely “Forum on Western Power Markets” conference to gain insights on the key challenges that face the western region today.

Join an outstanding group of speakers at this forum where stakeholders get the information they need to make informed judgments on how the western power market should be developed.
