IDEAL is a annual conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in intelligent data analysis and engineering and their associated learning paradigms. Following the highly successful conferences held in Hong Kong and Manchester, the fifth conference (IDEAL'04) will be held in the historical city of Exeter located in the beautiful southwest of England. This conference will unite researchers, scientists and practitioners the world over to present their findings, exchange ideas, and to share their successes.

IDEAL'04 presents an opportunity to reveal and develop the latest theoretical advances and their real-world applications in intelligent data engineering and automated learning to other world experts. The main themes of this conference include (but are not limited to) Bioinformatics, Data Mining and Fusion, Learning and Information Processing, Financial Engineering and Agents.

There will be two special issues focused on bioinformatics and learning algorithms for this conference. The scheduled publication of both issues is early 2005.

Special Issue on Bioinformatics in the International Journal of Neural Systems
Special Issue on Learning Algorithms in the Journal of Mathematical Modelling and Algorithms

All submitted papers regarding any aspects of these two topics will have opportunities for consideration for these Special Issues. The selection will be carried out in the review process as well as at the presentation stage. Authors of selected outstanding papers will be asked to expand their papers after the conference for further rounds of peer review. Contributions from outside of this conference are also encouraged.
