This will be the Alternative Education Resource Organization's second conference in the past two years, but the first it will be single-handedly organizing. AERO's 15th anniversary and the dire need for change in the education system have set the stage for this conference to have a far-reaching effect.

This conference will have many aspects that were prominent at last July's IDEC gathering, which AERO co-sponsored, including open space technology (where attendees have the opportunity to conduct their own workshops, events, and presentations) and low conference fees, especially for students. While the main focus will be "Setting the Agenda for the Education Revolution," the conference will not be limited to just that. Workshops, events, and presentations will be entirely up to the attendees.

This will primarily be a North American conference. However, all those interested in coming are welcome. Due to the timing of this conference, it can also be a precursor to next winter's IDEC in India, serving to coordinate those planning to attend the India conference. This will be an important and diverse conference, bringing together the numerous individuals and organizations focused on self-directed learning.

The Goal of the Conference:
AERO's 15th Anniversary Conference & Celebration, "Setting the Agenda for the Education Revolution" will outline our visions and work on turning them into reality.

An additional focus of this conference will be to strengthen AERO and to help it truly realize its mission of: "Building the critical mass for the education revolution by providing resources, which support self-determination in learning and the natural genius in everyone." Towards that end, AERO membership is included in conference costs for every attendee and we will extend the term for current members. A fundraising event at the conference will also help support the continuation of the work AERO does on a daily basis.

About the Host:
The Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO) was founded in 1989 by education expert Jerry Mintz to advance learner-centered approaches to education. AERO is a part of the School of Living, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. AERO is considered by many to be the primary hub of communications and support for educational alternatives around the world.

AERO provides information, resources and guidance to families, schools and organizations regarding their educational choices. AERO disseminates information, both nationally and internationally, on topics such as: homeschooling, public and private alternative schools, and charter schools. AERO's long-term goal is to become a more effective catalyst for educational change by providing books, magazines, software, online services, consultations, support groups, and organizational information and seminars in the field of alternative education.
