BCS-PAR Summer School on Pattern Recognition
Portland Square, University of Plymouth, Plymouth, UK 25-30 July, 2004

BCS-PAR summer school is the second summer school in the UK in the area of pattern recognition. This summer school is directed at postgraduate research students (MSc, MRes, MPhil, PhD), young academics who might want to get seriously involved in pattern recognition and people from industry who wish to apply the technology to real problems. Leading experts in the area of pattern recognition will give lectures and teach introductory to advance pattern recognition techniques at this important event.

The summer school will provide a good grounding in the various areas related to pattern recognition, including:

Bayesian Pattern Recognition
Bayesian Decision Theory, Gaussian Mixture Models, EM algorithm, PCA and ICA, Hidden Markov Models, Graphical Models, Dimensionality Reduction, Generative Topographic Mapping.

Non-parametric Pattern Recognition
Measuring classification complexity, Neural networks (MLP), Cascade Correlation, Self Organising Maps, Radial Basis Function Networks, Support Vector Machines, Decision Trees, Reinforcement Learning

Unsupervised Pattern Recognition and Visualisation
Clustering, Unsupervised Bayesian Learning, Data Visualisation, Sammon Mapping, Genetic Algorithms, Genetic Programming, Information Theory for Pattern Recognition

Classification and Optimisation
Multi-objective optimisation, Evolutionary Neural Networks, Particle Swarm Optimisation, Feature Selection, Data Mining, Novelty Detection, Performance Evaluation of Classifiers, Robust Statistics
