Studies of the cancer cell and its effects on normal tissues are defining unique properties
that can be used as targets for therapy. This starts with the complexity of genetic
change that exists in the DNA of the cancer cell and its expression into mRNA and
Protein. These changes lead to altered signaling, cell cycle progression, cell death and
senescence programs. The effects of cancer cells so programmed by random acquisition
of somatic mutation have led to the opportunity to target therapy to the tumor cell and its
vasculature. The transition from discovery to therapy is the theme of this conference.
The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of San Diego is focused on the application of
laboratory discoveries to therapy. Programs in cancer cell biology and genomics are
being applied to develop immunotherapeutic and vascular targeting therapy for cancer.
Sharp HealthCare and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer partner in the translation of these laboratory
discoveries into treatment programs in the Sharp Health Care Oncology Clinical
Trials Network, which access over one million patients through 5 hospitals and 3000
referring physicians.
Abstracts will be accepted in the Session Topics and will be selected for oral and
poster presentation.Ê The deadline for abstract submission is January 18, 2005.
This conference will be of interest to clinical oncologists, molecular biologists, cellular
biologists, tumor immunologists and other interested health professionals and researchers
working in this exciting field.
We are again holding this conference at the historic Hotel Del Coronado. We cordially
invite you to participate in this cutting edge scientific meeting.
