Competitive Manufacturing is concerned with the integration of management and technology for the improvement of processes and systems to achieve value addition in products. The modern concept of manufacturing stretches from product design, manufacturing planning and processing, to supply chain and end-of-life considerations. To achieve world-class manufacturing performance, it is essential to have an understanding of the holistic view of manufacturing as well as key components of the manufacturing process chain.

Ability to introduce new products timely which has market appeal coupled with high quality, reliability and affordability is a sine-quo-non for the survival and growth of any industry. The prime objective of this conference is to disseminate modem trends and practices in manufacturing and management to be adopted by firms to emerge as world class organisations.

Technical papers based on original work in the area of manufacturing technology and management will be presented and discussed by researchers, academicians and practitioners supplemented by keynote lectures by experts from Institutions and Industries. The panel discussion scheduled in the last technical session will bring to focus the Technological and management activities to be promoted in the coming decade in order to become globally competitive. A technical exhibition in line with the theme of the conference will be an attractive feature for industrial participation.

The Crescent Engineering College (CEC), an ISO 9001 - 2000 certified institution established in the year 1984 is one of the premier engineering institutions in the country known for its dedicated and effective training of students and for its achievements in R&D. The college is approved by Government of Tamil Nadu and All India Council for Technical Education. The college is affiliated to Anna University. Presently the college offers 8 UG and 7 PG Programmes.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 1984. The Department has been accredited with 'A' grade for three years by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

The Department is recognized as a Research Department by Anna University for undertaking research studies for M.S and Ph. D degree programmes.

The Crescent Engineering College , is located at Vandalur, Chennai in a sprawling, serene and evergreen campus, conducive to academic and research pursuit, in an area of 60 acres. It is situated 7 km south of the Tambaram Railway station and 16 km south of the Chennai Airport on the Chennai - Trichy GST Road (NH 45). Being adjacent to the Anna Zoological Park , Vandalur, it is easily accessible by frequent metro bus services.


Authors are requested to send three copies of extended abstract (not exceeding 500 words) of their papers by 3 rd September 2004 . The abstract of the paper should indicate clearly the title, author's name and address, objective, methodology and key results, in a double spaced MS-Word document. E-mail attachment is also acceptable. If the abstract is accepted, the final paper should be prepared in the format in a camera ready electronic form. It is mandatory that one of the authors registers for the conference for the presentation of the paper.
