Description The National Solar Energy Conference, SOLAR 2004, will be held in Portland, Oregon, July 10-14, 2004. SOLAR 2004 will bring together industry, utilities, researchers, decisionmakers, advocates and consumers. SOLAR 2004 will feature over 1000 attendees, hundreds of presentations, a renewable energy products and services exhibit, and the annual meetings of 10 different participating organizations.

SOLAR 2004’s theme is A Solar Harvest – Growing Opportunities. This theme is perfect for the bountiful state of Oregon. Oregon offers over a century of experience with hydropower and geothermal, and decades of buildings featuring daylighting, passive solar heating, and passive cooling. Currently, Oregon’s windpower generation is expanding, with solar thermal, photovoltaics, and biomass in close pursuit.

The city of Portland’s commitment to sustainability is internationally recognized. On Earth Day 2002, Oregon became the first state in the nation whose capitol building generates electricity from the sun, with a PV array provided by Portland General Electric’s Clean WindTM program. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory ranked Oregon as the 12th most cost effective location in the nation to install solar electric power, thanks to a combination of sunny summer days and robust consumer interest many years in the making. Our electricity customers love green power!

Come join SOLAR 2004 in Portland! You’ll find a solar bounty, entertainment, knowledge, great food, a vibrant and sustainable city, and the gorgeous Pacific Northwest landscape in dry, sunny, July.
