The primary motivation for this 2-day conference is to provide a forum for understanding the air quality issues and human health impacts related to urban sprawl, and the air quality improvements that should come from smart growth initiatives and successful airshed management. A second motivation is to highlight the roles that industry, community groups and government can play in achieving air quality improvements.
Conference Format
Day 1: Background information and key lessons learned related to urban sprawl and the human health impacts resulting from urban sprawl will be discussed; other presentations will focus on smart growth initiatives, new urban design approaches and planning legislation in the context of making improvements to urban (and hence rural) air quality.
Day 2: Airshed management, risk-based approaches, new air quality indices and a variety of success stories will be discussed; the latter will feature industrial, government and community-based initiatives that have led to local air quality improvements that benefit all citizens.
Who should attend?
This conference is intended to provide meaningful information on current air quality issues and an opportunity for open discussion between planners, policy makers, environmental managers, citizens, ENGOs, academics, urban designers and politicians. We have put together a stimulating program and a slate of speakers that we are sure will provide you with important information and the opportunity to interact in a small conference, multi-stakeholder environment.
