Festivals and Communities: Realising the Potential
Sheffield 23-25 September 2004
The 2004 IFEA Europe Conference provides a unique opportunity for local community representatives, festival organisers and policy makers to come together to learn from the experiences of others and to develop new ideas and productive networks.
A feature of this conference is to bring together experience, best practice and innovations from festival practitioners, policy makers and expert commentators involved with festivals and community development from across Europe.
The conference will feature invited keynote presentations, expert speakers and structured participative workshop sessions around the following main themes:
• Festivals, communities, cultural diversity and civic pride
• Festivals and community inclusion
• Festivals and local communities as attractions for tourists and external audiences
• Festivals as platforms for local community innovation, capacity building and expression
• Policies and programmes for supporting local community festivals
