Description The Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) and Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) will be sponsoring the 10th annual "Safe Schools - Successful Students" Conference, in collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). Keynote and featured presenters for this conference include:

“Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children” - Noted psychologist, author and consultant, Dr. Michael Thompson has written extensively about friendship development, popularity and social cruelty in childhood and is a national expert on the emotional lives of boys. He coauthored the New York Times best selling book, “Raising Cain,” has appeared on numerous television programs and been quoted in many national publications.

“The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls” - Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of America’s leading authors discuss her research on the plight of today’s girls as featured in her New York Times best selling book, “Odd Girl Out.” Citing examples from over 300 girls in schools throughout the United States, Ms. Simmons describes the pressure that leads to competition, aggression and ultimately a style of bullying that is just as harmful as boys, but much harder to recognize.

“Identity Fraud and Theft: Are You and Your Students Safe?” - In nearly two decades as one of the nation’s leading experts specializing in the identification of risks, threats and liabilities, Bill Alford has seen his share of fraud and embezzlement. He takes his experiences and uses them to help others prevent their most important information from falling into the wrong hands. In this session, Bill turns these experiences into entertaining, informative and “hard hitting” examples that are sure to capture your attention and “spur you into action!” His real world approach provides for retained learning and practices that can be put into place immediately in your personal life, as well as in the lives of your students. Come prepared to be alarmed, amazed and assured about the safety of your identity!
